Rem Koolhaas awarded Golden Lion at Venice Biennale
At the 12th International Architecture Exhibition in Venice today, Rem Koolhaas was awarded the Golden Lion for lifetime achievement by Biennale director Kazuyo Sejima. Koolhaas commented: "It is a really wonderful moment to get a lifetime achievement award in the middle of my career. I will certainly treat it as an encouragement for further action. Thank you."

Reinier de Graaf at Beyond Entropy
Given that we often criticize the meager and token efforts of fern-covered walls or 'greenwashed' products which often surface at biennales, admittedly we found it a bit strange to come to Venice and talk about sustainability. We wanted, however, to use the opportunity to suggest that architects could play a larger role in addressing the urgency of the issue.

WKCD forum in the Hong Kong Pavilion
In a rare meeting of minds, Rem Koolhaas, Norman Foster and Rocco Yim this afternoon presented their conceptual masterplans for the West Kowloon Cultural District in the Hong Kong pavilion at the Venice architecture biennale. OMA's design is based on the model of urban villages, which Koolhaas explains here...

Arts hub chief dismisses fears of design mishmash - SCMP

OMA reveals plans for new cultural district in Hong Kong
Hong Kong, 20 August, 2010 – The West Kowloon Cultural District Authority unveiled today OMA's conceptual masterplan for a major new arts district in Hong Kong. Under OMA's plan – one of three competing proposals – the 40 hectare waterfront site facing Victoria Harbour would become an authentic environment of three urban villages embedded in a new public park, Hong Kong's largest.

Rethinking Education - Strelka and OMA in conversation at Venice
Moscow, 19 August 2010 – Strelka, a new postgraduate school in Moscow for Media, Architecture and Design, is teaming up with OMA at the 12th International Architecture Exhibition – directed by Kazuyo Sejima and titled People meet in Architecture – for a conversation on architectural education – in Russia and beyond. OMA’s think tank, AMO, has developed an educational programme for Strelka, which will open its doors to students in October.

Repairs begin on TVCC
After a fire in February 2009 and subsequent structural and safety assessments, repairs began yesterday on OMA's Television Cultural Centre in Beijing. The Beijing Urban Construction Group is restoring the building according to OMA's original design. Adjacent to the China Central Television headquarters (also designed by OMA), TVCC will include a hotel, theatre, exhibition and conference space.

OMA's Shenzhen Stock Exchange Tops Out
Shenzhen, 28 June, 2010 – The Shenzhen Stock Exchange (SSE) – designed by OMA as new home for China’s equivalent of the NASDAQ exchange for hi-tech industries – topped out last Saturday at 246 metres, confirming its monumental presence in the rapidly developing centre of Shenzhen. The building is remarkable not only for its height: with a raised podium suspended 36 metres over a public plaza and projecting 54 metres from the tower base, the Shenzhen Stock Exchange has one of the largest cantilevers in the world.

OMA Book Machine at the Architectural Association
London, 7 May 2010 – OMA Book Machine, running from 7 May – 4 June at the Architectural Association in London, is the first ever retrospective of the books produced by the Office for Metropolitan Architecture – a practice co-founded by a writer, Rem Koolhaas, largely on the basis of a book, Delirious New York (1978). The centrepiece of the show is a specially-made 40,000-page book, binding together hundreds of OMA’s pamphlets and books made over 35 years of architectural thought, work and provocation.

Wyly Theatre opens in Dallas
Dallas, 14 October 2009 – The Dee and Charles Wyly Theatre, a reimagining of a conventional theatre building, with a ground-level performance space and auditorium visible from the outside, opens in Dallas this week.
