In a public event last night at the Royal Insitute of British
Architects (RIBA) in London, Rem Koolhaas was presented with the
annual Charles Jencks Award. In his citation, Jencks, an
architectural historian and designer, who first met
Koolhaas at the Architectural Association in the late
1960s, said: "Rem Koolhaas, more than any other architect of his
generation, has built a parallel life between the theory and
practice of architecture." Koolhaas thanked Jencks for his
longstanding "critical friendship," and then gave a
lecture titled "Agenda: 4 Ambitions" which featured OMA's
ongoing work in Eurasia, Lagos, preservation, and the countryside.
