On March 16, Rem Koolhaas one of the editors of Al Manakh gave a lecture at the Sharjah Biennial 9, sharing his experiences in the Gulf region over the last five years. Koolhaas touched upon his respect for the region and how his insights to the Gulf have developed through professional experience.
Koolhaas pointed out that the real dynamics in the region are a lot more complex and subtle than generally perceived. To monitor and analyze those developments, the Al Manakh team launched its website, almanakh.org, in preparation for the publication Al Manakh 2: Export Gulf.

November 18, 2010 - Rem Koolhaas and associate Clement Blanchet have received the Fooding 2010 award for best interior design for Le Dauphin, a new restaurant by chef Fred Penau in a new development area in the 11th arrondissement in Paris. The design, an "obsession in white" made with marble, mirrors and wood, provides a pure scenographic background for Le Dauphin's cuisine. The materials enlarge the 80m2 space through reflection, as street-facing mirrored surfaces blur the boundary between interior and exterior. Le Dauphin, scheduled to open at the beginning of December, was conceived as a complement to Le Châteaubriand, one of the world's most critically acclaimed restaurants, also by Fred Peneau, and Iniaki Aispitarte, located two doors down. The Fooding prize is a new alternative to the traditional French restaurant rating system, and is awarded by lefooding.com, an alternative restaurant and culinary guide.

June 09, 2011 - OMA's design for a new building for Rotterdam's town hall – now in the design development phase – has received a four-star ("Excellent") rating from BREEAM (the Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method). OMA won the competition for Stadskantoor in 2009, responding to the design brief's stipulation that the building must be the most sustainable in the Netherlands.

OMA to build major convention centre in Toulouse, France

July 07, 2011 - OMA has won the competition to design the new Parc des Expositions (PEX) in the innovation zone of Toulouse, in southern France. PEX is conceived as a new gateway to the city and will host exhibitions, conferences, and concerts. The 338,000m2 project is designed to be a compact mini-city – an antidote to the sprawl of a standard exposition park, and a means to preserve the surrounding French countryside.

OMA's Milstein Hall at Cornell opens to students

August 27, 2011 - OMA celebrated the opening of Milstein Hall this week as students and faculty held their first classes in the new 25,000 square feet of flexible studio space at Cornell’s College of Architecture, Art and Planning (AAP) in upstate New York. The Cornell Sun reported students flocking to the new drawing tables inside the elevated slab of Milstein Hall, which connects the existing Rand and Sibley Halls in a contiguous workspace. "Not only is this going to be our new home, but everyone has a new attitude," Ben Waters, a student, told the Sun. "Everyone has this new-found sense of pride for the program." September 13, 2011 - This weekend the Netherlands Architecture Institute in Rotterdam opened its new exhibition space, the Schatkamer ('Treasury'). Designed by OMA as a combination of spaces providing both intimacy and overview, the Schatkamer is located in a previously inaccessible room beneath the main exhibition levels. Maggie’s is designed to provide emotional and psychological support to those affected by cancer in the greater Glasgow area. 24-hour Museum at the Palais d'Iéna in Paris

The 24-hour Museum, a collaboration between AMO, Prada and artist Francesco Vezzoli, opens in Paris on Tuesday night at the Palais d'Iéna, a modernist pavilion built by Auguste Perret in 1937. The one-off event - including an opening night party, public and press tours, and visits by schoolchildren - will be a staging of a "fake" museum, examining the modes in which art is presented and consumed, and the role of the museum as a social condensor.

Today, Garage Center for Contemporary Culture unveiled plans for a new building in Gorky Park, designed by OMA. Garage Gorky Park - due to be completed in 2014 - will be a renovation of the famous 1960s Vremena Goda (Seasons of the Year) restaurant, a prefabricated concrete structure that has been derelict for more than two decades. OMA wins first round of the Moscow City Agglomeration Development Concept Competition

A consortium of experts led by OMA scored the highest of the 10 teams in the first round of the competition to develop the concept of the Moscow Agglomeration. In 2011, the Russian Federation Council confirmed that the city of Moscow will annex 150,000 hectares to the southwest, making Moscow 2.4 times its current size. The expansion is designed to relieve pressure on the historic city centre by redistributing the working places to the annexed part of the Moscow Oblast, thereby addressing transport, ecological and social issues that result from high levels of commuting.

Today OMA participated in the official construction completion ceremony for the China Central Television (CCTV) Headquarters in Beijing, which will start to be used later this year. Designed by OMA as a reinvention of the skyscraper as a loop, construction on the building began in 2004. At approximately 473, 000m², CCTV - accommodating TV studios, offices, broadcasting and production facilities - is OMA's largest ever project and its first major building in China.

Très Grande Bibliothèque, OMA's 1989 project for a national library in Paris, is being exhumed from the archive for an exhibition at the Canadian Centre for Architecture (CCA) in Montreal. The exhibition, curated by Rem Koolhaas and Clément Blanchet, presents models, drawings and research produced by OMA in response to an international competition launched by France's then president, François Mitterrand. OMA's design was for a giant cube with areas of emptiness that would accommodate the library's various functions - a "strategy of the void".

Given annually to an individual (or practice) that has recently made a major contribution internationally to both the theory and practice of architecture, the Jencks Award will be presented on Tuesday 20 November at the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) in London. The event will feature a public lecture by Koolhaas, chaired by Charles Jencks, architectural theorist. Jencks commented: "Rem Koolhaas, more than any other architect of his generation, has built a parallel life between the theory and practice of architecture." The Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam today awarded Rem Koolhaas an honorary doctorate for his "outstanding services to architecture." Professor Lex Bouter, Rector Magnificus of VUA, conferred the honor in a ceremony including talks on architecture by Michel ter Hark, Dean of the Faculty of Arts, and by the Belgian writer Kristien Hemmerechts. In his acceptance speech, Koolhaas cited a "constant curiosity" as the driver for his work in both building and writing.

In a ceremony today, OMA's Maggie's Centre Gartnavel in Glasgow was awarded the Andrew Doolan Award by the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland. Named after its founder and patron, the architect/developer Andrew Doolan, the RIAS Doolan Award celebrates the best buildings in Scotland. Maggie's Centre was selected from a shortlist of 13 other projects. OMA partner-in-charge Ellen van Loon commented: "I sincerely thank the RIAS for this significant recognition. I am happy to announce that the £25,000 prize has been donated to Maggie's - a fantastic cause and a project which I thoroughly enjoyed working on."

In a recent public event at the Pavilion de l'Arsenal in Paris, OMA founding partner Rem Koolhaas and associate/director of French projects Clement Blanchet presented OMA's recent Ecole Centrale competition win and its urban development in Saclay. Blanchet questioned the future of education, explaining the concept of LABcity Ecole Centrale as a new educational platform for the twenty-first century whilst Koolhaas discussed OMA's previous educational projects such as Jussieu - Two Libraries and the McCormick Tribune Centre at IIT.

January 08, 2013 - The Board of Directors of la Biennale di Venezia, chaired by Paolo Baratta, met today in the headquarters of Cà Giustinian and, after thanking and expressing its gratitude to David Chipperfield for the excellent results of the 13th International Architecture Exhibition, appointed Rem Koolhaas Director of the Architecture Sector, with the specific responsibility of curating the 14th International Architecture Exhibition to be held in 2014.

January 25, 2013 - The President of la Biennale di Venezia, Paolo Baratta, accompanied by the curator of the 14th International Architecture Exhibition, Rem Koolhaas, met today at Ca' Giustinian with the representatives of the 40 Countries participating in the 14th Exhibition, which will take place from 7 June to 23 November 2014 at the Giardini and at the Arsenale (Preview on 5 and 6 June) and in various other venues in Venice. The title chosen by Rem Koolhaas for the 14th International Architecture Exhibition is: Fundamentals.

OMA to build Essence Financial Building in Shenzhen

OMA has won the design competition for the Essence Financial Building in Shenzhen. The project, led by OMA Partners David Gianotten and Rem Koolhaas, and designed as a new generation office tower for Shenzhen, was selected from entries by four competing international and Chinese architectural practices.

OMA masterplans Airport City for HIA Airport in Doha, Qatar

After winning an international competition, OMA has been announced as masterplanners for Airport City, a new 10km2 development where 200,000 people will live and work, linking the new Hamad International Airport with the city of Doha, Qatar. OMA's masterplan is a series of four circular districts along a spine parallel to the HIA runways, intended to create a strong visual identity and districts with unique identities. Phase One of the 30-year masterplan, which links airside and landside developments for business, logistics, retail, hotels, and residences, will be mostly complete in time for the 2022 World Cup, hosted by Qatar.

A new furniture range, "Tools for Life," designed by OMA for Knoll, was unveiled today at the 52nd annual Salone Internazionale del Mobile in Milan. Knoll invited Rem Koolhaas to design the furniture to mark the company's 75 years in the business, in which time they have commissioned furniture by the architects Mies van der Rohe, Eero Saarinen and Frank Gehry, among others.

OMA to masterplan southern neighbourhood of Bordeaux

April 16, 2013 - OMA has been commissioned to design a masterplan for a major new urban development south of Bordeaux (FR), based on the expansion of the local tram system. The project, led by OMA associate Clement Blanchet and commissioned by La Fabrique Métropolitaine de la Communauté Urbaine de Bordeaux, aims to regenerate the neighborhoods of Bègles and Villenave d'Ornon, forging new connections to Bordeaux's central station.
